Boladale Mapayi is the principal investigator on the NIH sub-award grant titled empathic communication skills training to reduce lung cancer stigma in Nigeria. This is a collaborative project being executed in Ile Ife and Ibadan in Nigeria in collaboration with Sloane Kettering Institute for cancer research.
The study will adapt and pilot test the feasibility and acceptability of Empathic Communication Skills (ECS) intervention tailored to the unique issues faced by Oncology Care Providers (OCPs) treating patients with lung cancer in Nigeria. It focuses on improving empathic communication and reducing stigma experienced by patients with lung cancer in Nigeria.
The long-term objective of the proposed research is to develop and disseminate an effective OCP-focused intervention strategy designed to reduce perceived lung cancer stigma.
