Boladale Mapayi, the principal investigator, was a participant at the CARTA JASes Training of Trainers (ToT) for prospective facilitators of the Joint Advanced Seminars (JASes), which was hosted by the University of Rwanda (UR) in collaboration with the Consortium for Advanced Research Training in Africa (CARTA). The training took place at Grand Legacy Hotel in Kigali from 29th August to 3rd September 2022.
JASes aim to provide a structured teaching component to PhD training ensuring skills transfer. They also assist in the instilment of a new approach to a pedagogy that promotes critical thinking and agency among PhD students. Further, JASes provide an appreciation of what a multidisciplinary approach to research can bring and they instil commitment of the next generation of PhD students for advanced research training in Africa.
